That time I stepped in front of the camera
Our family recently went on a wonderful trip to California. I had a brilliant idea to look into scheduling family photos just two days before we left. It was appealing to take photos in a part of the country that was new to us and it had been a while since we had family photos. After a bit of online research, I found a wonderful photographer located near where we would be staying. Luckily, he was available and I booked him right away.
Immediately after booking him though, I started to panic. Typically before family photos, I like to spend at least 50 hours planning/obsessing what to wear, getting the boys haircuts and maybe manicure for myself. None of that was going to happen. However, we certainly had enough options in our closet and everyone looked presentable (enough). Of course I wanted my family to look put together but it was more important to me that we were photographed just being together.
I am our family’s photographer 95% of the time. My husband does do a great job taking photos of the kids and me but it was long overdue that I have an image like the one below to display. Was it a little nerve-wracking having a camera in my face? Absolutely! But after those first few minutes, we all were relaxed and the session was incredibly fun. Dipan did an amazing job making us feel at ease and capturing our family. Shortly after we were back home, I received our gallery and I was blown away with what he captured. Like most people, I hold on to images far too long on my computer, but I immediately sent a few to the lab to be printed. The image below is displayed prominently in an area of our home and I pass it about 50 times a day. And all 50 times I smile. This certainly was the best gift I have given myself.
The best gift for Mother’s Day (or any day)
I am so grateful that I have this image and it really means the world to me. Yes, I am a photographer and am going to encourage you to take family photos but trust me…it really is the best gift you can give yourself. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about purchasing a session (or a gift certificate).
