the best time for your newborn session

You have probably heard that the best time for your newborn session is within the first two weeks. This is a wonderful guideline however not one that I follow. I firmly believe as a photographer (and a mother) that the best time for you newborn session is when the mother is ready.  I have been photographing newborns for 10 years!. And have successfully taken photos of babies as young as 5 days and as “old” as 5 weeks.

I have found that when I work with newborns at their photo session, their little personalities start to show. Some little ones are so intrigued by my camera, they are wide awake most of the time. While other newborns don’t really seem too interested and just fall back to sleep.

No matter the age of your newborn, we will capture gorgeous images. There is a good chance that during our newborn session your little one will be awake some of the time and asleep some of the time. This is why I always recommend that new moms schedule the newborn session when they are feeling up to it.
I’m happy schedule your newborn photo session within the first few days if you are feeling great and ready for me.  I also understand you may want to wait a few weeks so that your family can spend time getting settled in and so that you have more of an opportunity to recover. Either way, I am here and happily ready to capture gorgeous newborn photographs.

the best time to book your newborn photographer

Every month I schedule only a small amount of newborn sessions to allow the greatest flexibility for families. I do recommend that you reach out as soon as possible while you are pregnant so that I can pencil you in on my schedule.   After your little one arrives, we can work out the specifics as to the best time to schedule your newborn session.

Below are a few examples of little ones with their age just above each image.
