Wardrobe ideas for new moms
It has been 7 years since we had a newborn in our home. But I remember so clearly how frantic I was preparing for our little one’s arrival. There are so many things to consider as you are getting ready for the baby to arrive: researching delivery locations, finding a pediatrician, and ALL that baby gear and figuring what exactly do you need and what you can skip. I’d like to offer a few thoughts on wardrobe ideas for new moms.
It’s best to schedule your newborn photo session ahead of time but I realize that with all the other preparations, it doesn’t always happen. I always do my best to accommodate last minute requests. And whether you have booked your newborn session months ahead or just a few days ahead, I would like to share my recommendations of what to wear.
3 tips for choosing the right outfit for your newborn session
My best tip would be for the new mom to find something that she feels great in. I want the mom to honor the incredible feat she and her body just endured. I always suggest the the new mom wear something cozy with texture their newborn photo session. Maybe a soft, fuzzy sweater or an open cardigan with tank underneath. One newborn client recently wore her lovely spa-like robe and the images looks so beautiful. During the warmer months, maxi dresses and tunics look wonderful.
Another tip would be to wear neutrals and soft colors. Remember you want to the focus to be on the baby and the connection between you and you newborn and not a fancy top. Keep in mind that if a color is too bright, some of the color can reflect on to the baby, and you don’t want that. One fun way to add color is through accessories- think fun necklaces or statement earrings.
Since a session can last 90 minutes, mom will likely need to take a break for feeding or nursing. Wearing something that has easy access for nursing purposes is a great idea.
