What to wear to a headshot session
One of the most frequent questions I get asked during my pre-session consultation is about what to wear during the headshot session.
I promise, it does not have to be that hard and with a few key tips, you will be feeling great when you are stepping in front of the camera
What to wear for your headshot session
- Dress like you would for a meeting with your client or a boss. Industries vary, but generally, you will want lean towards slightly overdressed.
- Think about colors. Do you gravitate towards jewel tones or maybe more neutrals? Dress in a way that YOU like– not what you think others want you to dress. When you dress in a manner that is true to you, I guarantee you will feel confident in yourself. Keep in mind that busy patterns may not look the best for a headshot. However, interesting details like a puff sleeve or a cinched waste are lovely touches.
- Shop your closet. You will likely have what you need already. I recommend layers– think about adding a blazer or a cardigan. You will want to make sure you try things on– this is not the time to wear an ill-fitting blazer or see-through blouse. I recommend clients try items on, then send me cell phone pics.
- When in doubt, think cool neutrals. These images below showcase a variety of looks– all with blues and gray tones which look lovely on so many skin tones.
- I have been a Denver headshot photographer for 12 years — use me as a resource! Send me all the pics and I will help narrow down options for you. Most clients bring multiple outfits that can easily be swapped out.
