“Marketing is no longer about the stuff you make, but the stories you tell”
I appreciate this quote by the genius marketer Seth Godin. I don’t need to tell you that we are bombarded too frequently with advertisements. Have you ever searched for something on google then log into Facebook only to find the exact same product show up in your feed? Advertisers are getting smarter, but so are consumers. It has been estimated that the average American is exposed to 4000 advertisements per day. So how can your business break through the clutter and really resonate with your client? Consider instead of simply showing product or service you are selling tell but rather share your business’s story in a meaningful way.
why I started small business photo sessions
I love shopping at local handmade markets and not just for the goods. I really enjoy meeting the person behind the candle/artwork/hand-knit scarf. It’s fun to hear the story of how and they started their business, what inspires them to create and learn a bit more about the process. When I learn more about the business, I feel more connected to their product. Social media is no different. Consumers buy from business’s they like and trust. When a business shares more then just the WHAT and really digs into the WHY and HOW, the business is able to build a relationship and rapport with their target audience.
I recognize that many small businesses do it all themselves- everything from accounting, to social media, to marketing on top of creating their product or crafting their service. I appreciate it’s hard to outsource any aspect of the business that you have worked so hard to create. But think for a minute how long you spend creating a social media post. Now think about what it would be like if you had a batch of consistent looking images that are on brand for your business? After a small business branding photo session that is exactly what you will have.
how to tell your unique story through images
Consumers love to see the face behind the product they are considering buying. When a consumer can see the face behind the product, they feel more connected. This connection helps create a trust and build upon the relationship. Of course, you could show an image of your latest head shot but why not go a few steps further by sharing your business’s story. Through my small business branding sessions, we will create visual content that shows the many facets of your business. We will work together to help craft the story you want to share with your consumers. This narrative may include anything from your brainstorming process, the design of prototypes, your workspace, crafting your product and behind the scenes images.
The goal of a small business branding session will be able to help tell your business’s whole story in a meaningful and authentic way that is consistent with your brand which will help you connect with your target audience.
what a small business branding session looks like
Below is a small sampling of images I created for Two Little Fruits. Brett and Derek create their unique home and gift products out of their Denver area home. Their inspiration comes from their surroundings -literally – check out the elephant on the power line piece. The process to create a Two Little Fruits piece is quite lengthy and impressive. The images that we created during the small business branding session allows their audience to “see” a bit more into the extensive creative process bringing more value to their incredible pieces.
