what to wear for your head shot session

So you’ve booked your head shot session … now what? One of the next steps to consider is what to wear for your head shot session. I would like to share some tips regarding what to wear for your head shot session with me.

  • What makes you feel great?  It’s hard enough stepping in front of the camera- make it a little easier by wearing something you feel confident in! If you need some help on this, ask your favorite people to give their thoughts on what looks great on you (I’m happy to help as well).
  • How will you use the images? You likely will be using your image for LinkedIn, your business website and other social media. Consider bringing different outfits for the various uses. For example, if you will be using an image on your website, you will need to think about the overall look of your site including your brand colors. However, you may want a different image style for your LinkedIn profile.
  • Consider your environment:  The backdrop of your photos will play a role in what you should wear. You won’t won’t to blend in or clash with the setting. You will not want to wear anything with a “busy” pattern. Instead, consider apparel that is structured and in a fabric that does not wrinkle easily.
  • Narrow your focus:  Remember that head shots are just that. During our time together, we can certainly capture a few full-length images, but typically will stick to close-ups. There is no need to necessarily spend time or money on a brand new outfit. It’s best to put your energy into on the top half of your body.
  • Focus on fit: Avoid waiting until the last minute to try items on to make sure they fit properly.  But remember if you find yourself in a bind, we can always cinch an item in the back to make sure it looks great!
